Love is Awake

This is a collection of mostly love songs that I have recorded with ingénues Rose Chapman, Tina Malia, Fiora Cutler and Sarah Aili. These songs are a joyous celebration of human relationships representing a myriad of emotions we often encounter daily with our loved ones. Soulful Bryan Dyerís voice is also featured together with Tinaís on 'One Hand, One Heart' from West Side Story. Sultry swoops, plaintive murmurs and bedroom purring are all included in this collection of expressive manifestations of our insatiable desire for eternal union. From the existential to the seductive, these songs share a yearning for the other, a desire to be made complete in the arms of the beloved.

Love Is Awake: The Musical - A Brief Synopsis
By celebrating diversity in relationships, Love Is Awake follows the arc of romance with six passionate couples. On a journey of self-discovery, told with both poignancy and humor, we trace the lives of twelve main characters that ultimately intersect and merge into a surprisingly tumultuous yet tender confluence of understanding. From the taboo of the student / professor attraction to the polyamorous complexity of modern day bohemians, Love Is Awake never fails to challenge convention with hilarious results. Young lesbian lovers cavort and commiserate with a middle-aged couple rediscovering their lost love while an older gay couple can finally legally marry. Suspending judgment in support of adult consensual activities is the thread woven between these endearing vignettes. The tangible collective compassion among the players in the joyous finale leaves the audience acutely aware of their own fundamental assumptions and prejudices but now at least hopefully willing to question them a little for the sake of love. Set in the fun loving city of San Francisco, Love Is Awake takes a fresh look at how people partner and the exotic, creative and extravagant nature of love itself.
