Smile In Your Eyes

When you’re low and glum

When newscasts got you bummed

Take a breath to unplug and find some one

With joy in your heart, gratitude, and love to share

Find a rip in the curtain of delusion

There’s a gap when we’re uncertain with no confusion

Let the freight-train of hate-pain pass you by

Without hanging on or hitching a ride

Look beneath those sick systems for wisdom

See past the thick prisms of schism

In between conditioned reflexes

Is light unseen behind twisted lenses

Space for us to grow and thrive

Grace in-chorus glorious and alive

Put a smile in your eyes to find a smile in all eyes

Let the warmth of your inner sun shine on everyone

We’re in crisis because of bias

From a virus that’s self-righteous

Eclipsing care with vainglorious greed

nixing fair-shares with warriors who stampede

pull the plug on this cruel state of hate

pull out their rug before it’s too late

end all fear with a big bear hug

clear the air on a thick prayer rug

so, open hearts can know no bounds

an ocean imparts flow that surrounds

in every living being

in reverie giving meaning

far beyond ruthless self-serving

we respond with newness ever learning

Be caregivers be love’s rivers

Be hate’s healers be mercy’s teachers

in concert united

where all hurts are invited

to feel heard, seen, and salvedaffirmed, cleansed, resolved

so, our destiny can be conscious evolution

with less money and obnoxious pollution

neighborhoods helping each other

so, our labor would aid those who suffer

so, no one in need goes hungry

no shoguns to bleed our country

just kind equality for humanity

And finding the generosity in ecology

That we all care for together

as light as a feather

dancing on our fraying ever-rising high-wire

Collapsing what will we prioritize before we expire?
