On Tilopa's Mountain

The great sage Tilopa

Had few words of advice

May they invoke a

Lifetime of delight

While sitting straight and still

Befitting a state tranquil

“Don’t recall, don’t imagine

Don’t think, don’t meditate

Don’t examine, rest naturally”

Be loosely relaxed without distraction

You’ll see vastness throughout in this non-action

Be free from refuting free from affirming

Free from polluting free from disturbing

No longer rejecting no more adopting,

No hunger and hoping ignoring or doubting

Without attachment

Meditation glows luminous

Without fixation

Creation flows numinous

Inward aggression breeds depression

Outward aggression feeds your pride

Unchecked brutality of subject/object duality

Will stupefy and blind your third eye

You’ll stumble through life to grumble and die

Become dull and bone-dry never to try

One juicy bite of home-grown humble pie

Death will remind you

compulsive clinging is abusive living

Let breath find you

In presence of being an awareness of meaning

In this moment without postponement

And no opponent there is atonement

The closeness of wholeness comes into focus

The stillness of isness that’s already within us

Receptiveness to friendliness in emptiness

Panoramic consciousness is dynamic responsiveness

To a nexus of now, a directness to allow

In an ever-flowing movement of never opposing attunement

The harm of attachment is gone

Your compassionate heart is reborn

In an ocean of openness

In motion and stillness

Expanding in infinite depths

Of understanding in each intimate breath

Wonderous awareness of concurrent realities

Lustrous freshness of emergent totalities

The view from each peak is limitless and unique

In silence there’s alliance with the essence of our presence

In lovingkindness there’s all goodness that reminds us, what’s inside us
